Rajasthan
Rajasthan is India's largest state and its most theatrical. Forts the size of small cities crown every ridge. Palaces that once housed Maharajas now serve sundowners on their rooftop terraces. The desert bleeds into scrubland that bleeds into the Aravallis — every landscape feels like it was painted rather than grown. And yet it's the smaller things that stay with you: the blue-washed lanes of Jodhpur, the smell of ker sangri at a roadside dhaba, the silence inside a haveli courtyard at noon. This is a state where the phrase "off the beaten track" still means something.
