The short version

Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan and the gateway to India's desert state, famous for its pink-washed old city, hilltop forts and some of the country's best street food. Most visitors come for the palaces and leave having only seen the queues. The real Jaipur is in its bazaars at dawn, its rooftop thalis and the lanes behind the landmarks. Two days is enough to see it well if a local points the way.
