About BonVoyah

Travel guides written by locals.

They know which famous spots are worth it and which ones just have good marketing.

Why we exist

Most travel writing is a stranger's long layover.

Open 10 travel sites and you will find the same ten lists, rewritten. A writer flies in for a weekend, eats where the meal was comped, photographs the spot everyone photographs, and files a guide that could be about anywhere. We think a city deserves better than that.

So we do the slower thing. We hand each city to someone who was born and raised there, and we let them be honest, even when honest means “skip this one, it isn’t worth your morning.” No sponsorships pulling the copy in quiet directions. No top-ten that’s really a top-ten-who-paid.

A travel guide should feel like your friend in that city, not a brochure. That friend has opinions, a standing order at one particular breakfast place, and the confidence to tell you when the famous place is a tourist trap. That is the whole idea.

What we believe

Four principles we won't trade away.

The writer actually lives there.

Not a content team's research, not a freelancer who visited once. Every guide comes from a person who grew up in the place it's about.

The local's pick isn't for sale.

When an insider tells you a place is worth it, that's their call — not a paid placement dressed up as one. Nobody buys their way into the recommendation.

More than the obvious 10.

The famous sights are in here too — we're not contrarians. But so are the early mornings and the lanes a list would never bother with.

The trust signal

A real name behind every guide.

You always know exactly whose local knowledge you're trusting — and can see everything else they've put their name to.

How it works

Three steps, and you travel like you have a friend in town.

01

We find the local.

Born and raised, opinionated, generous. The kind of person you wish you'd known before you booked the flight.

02

They tell you the truth.

The good, the overrated, and the thing everyone books that they'd quietly skip. If somewhere isn't worth it, you'll hear why — the why is the useful part.

03

You travel like a local.

You arrive already knowing where breakfast is and which lane to turn down. Less guessing, more living.

Where we are

Just getting started.

We’re early, and growing city by city. Everything that’s live is the real thing, written by someone who lives there – we’d rather add one honest guide a month than a hundred we can’t stand behind.
